Snow Day movie recommendations from the Kiggins' Staff

Because we are postponing our Comedy on Tap show until January 26th, and the Kiggins will be dark on Thursday, we polled the Kiggins crack team of movie experts to offer up some Snow Day movie suggestions for your viewing pleasure!

Some are blizzard themed, some are overlooked indie gems that may have played at the Kiggins and you may have missed...and all are currently available on Netflix Streaming and other platforms!

So light a fire, pop some popcorn, get into your comfy pants and hop onto the couch and have a mini film festival, courtesy of your friends at the Kiggins!

First up, Mac recommends the Coen Brothers' O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? George Clooney, John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson star as three convicts on the lam in this Depression Era retelling of Homer's The Odyssey.

Key has chosen the hilarious and insightful HARMONTOWN, which had a brief run here at the Kiggins in 2014. This warts and all documentary follows Community creator Dan Harmon as he takes his hit podcast on the road.

Alison is excited that the Stanley Kubrick classic THE SHINING is back on Netflix! You couldn't ask for a more classic case of cabin fever than Jack Nicholson's decent in to madness at the Overlook Hotel. And your backyard probably looks a bit like the maze at the end of the film right about now with all this snow! "Here's Johnny!"

Richard wants to recommend the gothic thriller indie UNCLE JOHN. Starring the great character actor John Ashton, it will hook you from the first shot and keep you on edge until the very end. It was a film festival hit that never got the theatrical release it deserved, so check it out if you are looking for something in vein of Blood Simple

Kay chose the acclaimed animated film THE LITTLE PRINCE. Based on the novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, this charmer almost didn't get released at all until Netflix came to the rescue. This magical tale is the perfect film for the whole family after a day of playing in the snow! Make a big pot of cocoa and snuggle!

And finally, Kiggins' owner Dan has picked the underrated comedy LIBERAL ARTS which screened at the Kiggins in 2012. Directed by and starring Josh Radnor (How I Met Your Mother), this touching story of a nostalgic 30-something man who returns to his alma mater for a retirement party and finds himself falling for a current student (Elizabeth Olsen) and the life he once had. Richard Jenkins and Allison Janney have never been better.
