Park Chan-Wook is one of modern cinema's most acclaimed filmmakers, known for such films as OLDBOY, LADY VENGEANCE, SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE, STOKER and THIRST to name but a few. His new epic sexual thriller THE HANDMAIDEN opens on November 4th at the Kiggins and it's a doozy.

Inspired by the novel FINGERSMITH by British author Sarah Waters THE HANDMAIDEN is transposed to 1930s-era colonial Korea and Japan, where Park presents a sensual tale of a young Korean woman who is hired to serve as the handmaiden for a lonely Japanese Lady living on a secluded country estate, but who is secretly involved in a grift to defraud the Lady of her inheritance.

With a 93% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, here's what some of the critics are saying:

“EQUALLY THRILLING TO FOLLOW AND LOOK AT. An exactingly composed work, constructed with the tightness of a Swiss Watch and dripping in period style, that still demands a lean-forward attention to plot.” – Steven Zeitchek, LA Times

“AN INTELLIGENT, FUNNY EROTIC THRILLER.” – Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair

“LURIDLY MESMERIZING. One comes out feeling sensually satiated.” – Maggie Lee, Variety

“An amusingly kinky erotic thriller and love story that brims with delicious surprises, making its two-and-a-half hours fly by.” – Deborah Young, Hollywood Reporter

“SEXY AND TWISTY AND SO COMPELLING.” – Allison Willmore, Buzzfeed

“A FEAST FOR ALL OF THE SENSES.” – Rolling Stone
